Version 1.2 (January 12th 1992)

What is this?!
--------------
This package contains an Amiga BSXmud client. You are free to spread
it as long as you include this document as well. Let me now explain
'BSXmud' character by character.
B = Bram
S = Stolk
X = Xwindow system (ie. graphical)
m = multi
u = user
d = dungeons
All clear? NO?! Well allright. You probably ever in your life played
mud. It is the game which you play together with other players, in
which you kill monsters and solve quests in order to get experience.
Once you have enough experience, you become immortal and you will be
enabled to start building your own locations, so expanding the game.
In the old-fashioned days, these muds were text-only. That meant that
you got descriptions like:
You see a beautiful christmas tree
but you don't see nothing, just this line of text. With BSXmud, this
bad practise has come to an end. Now you can decide yourself if an item
looks good because it will be drawn on your screen. The idea is that
the server (ie. the hostcomputer) sends data of polygons to the client
(ie. YOU). The client interprets the data and draws the picture on
your screen. That's just what this package does. It is the client.
Peculiarities of this client
----------------------------
At this date (January 12th, 1992) there exists only one BSXmud. It is
Brasto and is currently located in Sweden (this might change at any
moment, however):
robin.lysator.liu.se 7475
Right now it has only few locations. These matters are all very new
and so is this client. Since it was hacked into some other program
(an old vt100 simulator) I had a hard time getting things right. I
wouldn't be surprised if you found bugs, you can Email them to me,
maybe I can fix them.
Don't count on the menuitems. Although Ascii send and receive work,
it could very well be that the others don't. I didn't try them yet.
The VT100 simulator is, ofcourse, not working properly. Anything that
it does right is already more than you should expect. It handles
reverse characters and reverse scrolling. I didn't test the others.
You can adjust the space used by graphics / text with the numeric
keypad. Just check out 7, 4, 1, 8, 2 to see what they are doing. The
aspectratio always remains 2:1 except for the case in which you have
a very big graphics area and only few textlines left.
If you turn off 'Graphics' from the 'Settings' menu it will ignore
all commands (@), it will just print them to the screen. Handy for
wizards that want to see a file with @'s in it.
It supports interlace as well, just select 'interlace' from 'Settings'.
You can walk around with the cursorkeys. It just sends some strings
to the server. This is optional, if you select 'Microstep' from the
'Settings' menu, you can toggle between microstepping and using the
cursorkeys for vt100 commands to move the cursor.
This client was hacked together in a relatively short period of time.
It is buggy and some parts need to be rewritten. This version was
released with the famous 'better something than nothing at all' in
mind.
Bugs
----
If you select interlace from the menu while you haven't enough CHIPmem
left, it will crash your Amiga.
